After reading this guide, you’ll have an exact idea of how to start blogging in Nepal. From ideation to content production, I’ve covered it all in this guide.
That being said, let’s jump straight in.
How To Start A Blog In Nepal In 8 Simple Steps
I’ve broken down the process of starting a blog in Nepal in 8 simple steps to help you understand all the important aspects of blogging.
Being a blogger for over 7 years and having started multiple successful blogs, I always follow and recommend these 8 steps to anyone wanting to start a new blog.
Step 1. Pick A Niche/Topic For Your Blog
The first step of starting a blog in Nepal is to pick a topic or niche for your blog. There are a lot of blogs running on different topics on the Internet.
There are a lot of topics to choose from such as technology, sports, beauty, health, business, finance, etc. You can even dig deeper into any one topic to find more niches for your blog.
But instead of doing that, my recommendation is that you should start a blog on topics you’re interested in. There are two reasons behind this:
These two points are very important to consider and can make or break your blog.
In my experience, I’ve always found success with blogs on topics that I’m interested in or knowledgeable in.
But that’s not enough. Your niche/topic should also be something you can make money out of.
So, here’s what you should do:
Create A List of Topics You’re Interested In
Open up your Excel or Google sheets and start making a list of topics you’re interested in. This could be anything such as hiking, music, comic books, etc.
Add all your ideas to this list and don’t reserve yourself at all. We’ll be filtering out ideas later on.
Once you have a list of ideas, add a column to your sheet named “Interest Level”. Now, we have to double down on topics you’d be most interested in.
In the Interest Level column, add a rating from 0-5 describing your interest in that topic.
Ask yourself these questions to rate each interest more accurately:
“Would you be interested in writing 50-100 on this topic?”
“Would you be interested in writing on this topic for 2-3 years from now?”
These questions will help you find topics you’re most interested in easily.
Research If These Topics Have Enough Interest On The Internet
Once you’ve found your topic, it’s time to find out whether there are people out there interested in the topic.
To do this, go to Google Trends and enter your topic. Filter it to view the trends for the past 5 years. This will give you a good idea of whether people are searching for this topic.
You can also go one step ahead and search your topic on Google.
Try to find blogs covering your topic. If there are enough blogs on this topic, it’s a good indication that your chosen niche has a high demand.
You can also check how well these blogs are doing by searching for them on SimilarWeb.
It shows rough traffic estimates for websites giving you an idea of how much traffic blogs in your chosen topic are getting.
Check If You Can Make Money From Your Niche
There’s no use in starting a blog on a topic that can’t help you make money.
To find out whether you can make money from your niche, you need to do the this:
Check other blogs in your niche and see how they’ve monetized their blogs. If there are blogs displaying ads, product products, or selling their own product/service, it’s a good indication that your niche can be monetized.
Now, there’s no way to exactly find out how much money a blog is making, but by checking how they’ve monetized their blog, you can still get a good picture.
Moreover, you can also check on Amazon and other affiliate programs such as Clickbank and ShareASale to find products in your niche.
If there are products on such platforms, you can promote them on your blog.
Lastly, even if you don’t find enough products, you can also monetize your blog by selling your own products in the form of courses, templates, planners, etc.
Step 2. Find A Great Blog Name
You’ve found your blog niche. Now, it’s time to come up with an awesome name for your blog.
Brainstorming names for a blog can be very confusing and often overwhelming. To make things simple, remember the following tips when coming up with a name for your blog:
If you remember these tips, you can come up with names that will be memorable and brandable.
But if you’re still struggling, you can use a blog name generator tool like Namelix.
With this tool, you just have to enter your topic/keyword and it’ll come up with brand name suggestions. I’ve found this tool to be helpful sometimes when I’m unable to come up with creative names.
Step 3. Purchase Domain & Hosting
Now, it’s time to purchase your domain and hosting.
While many experts recommend purchasing Bluehost hosting, I’d strongly advise against that. Bluehost is unreliable and very deceptive in its marketing which is why I always recommend people to look for other alternatives.
If you’re starting a blog in Nepal, I highly recommend using Hostinger to purchase web hosting.
It’s one of the cheapest web-hosting providers and offers quality web hosting with a 99.9% uptime guarantee.
Their hosting starts at just $1.99/mo which is really affordable for anyone starting a new blog.
To get started with hosting, visit the Hostinger website and click on the “Get Started” button.
This will take you to the pricing table as shown below:
Choose the Premium Shared Hosting plan that costs $2.99/month and click on the “Select” button. I recommend this plan as it also comes with a free domain.
If you already have purchased the domain, you can go with the cheapest plan available.
Once you select the plan, you’ll land on this page where you have to choose your hosting period. By default, it’s selected for 48 months (4 years).
You can change this to 12 months if you don’t want to pay for 4 years of hosting upfront.
Scroll down and enter your email for account creation. You can also use your social accounts for account creation.
Lastly, select your payment method and enter your payment details for checkout. You can pay with your Credit Card, PayPal, GPay, Alipay, and CoinGate.
That’s all you have to do to purchase your domain and web hosting.
Step 4. Install WordPress & Setup Your Blog
Once you’ve purchased your web hosting, it’s time to install WordPress. WordPress is a very popular CMS (Content Management System) that helps you create a blog and publish articles on your website with ease.
If you’ve chosen Hostinger as your choice of hosting, you can use their auto-installer to install WordPress with a single click. Refer to this article or the video below to install WordPress on Hostinger.
Once WordPress is installed, it’s time to set up your blog.
The first step includes installing a WordPress theme on your blog. I highly recommend the Astra WordPress theme which is a lightweight, clean, and fast WordPress theme for bloggers.
The theme is available for free so you don’t have to spend any extra money. But if you’d like more features, you can get their pro version as well.
Once your theme is installed, you need to install a few important WordPress plugins. These plugins will help you manage your blog with ease.
Here are some essential WordPress plugins for every blog:
With these plugins and a good WordPress theme like Astra, your blog is ready to go!
Step 5. Create A Content Calendar
After setting up your blog, it’s time to create a content calendar. This is a step many new bloggers skip because they feel it’s not important.
But if you want to grow your blog fast, you have to keep publishing content consistently. And for that, it’s important you have a content calendar.
To create a content calendar, you first have to make a list of blog posts you’ll be publishing on your blog.
Then, you can create a calendar using Google Sheets or a tool like Notion. I currently use Google Sheets and here’s what my content calendar looks like:
As you can see, it’s very simple and I haven’t complicated it at all. Fill out your content calendar month by month to stay consistent with your publishing schedule.
Step 6. Create High-Quality Content
Creating high-quality content is very important for running a successful blog. As a beginner, you’d initially face difficulties creating good content.
But that’s not a worry since your quality will improve overtime as you write more content. This is why I recommend publishing consistently as it’ll help you get better.
To create quality content, here are some tips you should follow:
These tips will initially help you write good-quality content. I also recommend reading other blogs and seeing how they write content.
This will also help you get better at writing high-quality content.
Step 7. Promote Your Blog
Once your blog is up and running, you should start promoting it to get traffic. The best way to initially grow a website’s traffic is to share your content on social media.
If you have a good following on Instagram and Facebook, you should definitely start sharing your blog posts there to get traffic.
Besides that, you should join Facebook groups in your niche to connect with other bloggers, industry experts, and your audience.
Don’t copy-paste your blog links or promote them at all. This is considered spam in many groups and will result in you getting removed from the group.
Instead, provide value directly in these groups by commenting on posts, creating posts, and engaging in the group.
If you do this consistently, you can establish yourself as an expert in the group and slowly drive traffic to your blog.
You can also create your own Facebook group and grow an audience. Since it’s your group, you’ll be able to promote your blog freely without any restrictions.
Lastly, I also recommend promoting your blog on Pinterest by creating image pins and sharing them on the platform.
Step 8. Monetize Your Blog
The last step of running a successful blog in Nepal is to monetize it and make money through it.
There are many methods of monetizing a blog such as:
You can choose any of the above methods to monetize your blog and make money from it.
The simplest and fastest way to monetize a blog is using Ads. Google Adsense is an ad platform that lets you make money from your blog by displaying ads.
Once you reach decent traffic, you can apply for Adsense monetization and start displaying ads on your blog.
You can simultaneously also opt for affiliate marketing and make money by promoting products on your blog.
If your blog’s niche has enough products that can be promoted, you can make money from it through product reviews and guides.
No matter what monetization option you choose, it’s important to remember that your blog needs to get decent traffic first.
Focus on growing your blog first before jumping into monetization. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers fail because they focus on the money before putting in the work of growing their blog.
